Before I even get started, this place (The Humble City Cafe) is an institution in this area.
If I had to define it, this place is 'good country eating' at its best. That's about the best way to define it. First of all, the food is outstanding, the choices are vast and the serving's are plentiful...and hearty.
Whenever I'm here for dinner, I usually order the chicken fried steak, but that has changed now (you'll read about it below). They provide it in two sizes: half and a full...but don't be fooled - that 'half order' will occupy most of your plate so it's best to order the full size and you can take some of it home with you. When I order the chicken fried steak, I always add their cabbage and sweet potatoes as sides but never forget to me eat my veggies first. Mom taught me that 20 years ago.
If cabbage nor sweet potatoes are your thing, you can obtain a serving of steaming hot fried okra, which is a solid southern cuisine in itself. I would be remiss not to mention the cornbread served as an appetizer. Nothing short of incredible. It's served hot, in an iron skillet with two types of butter. Yes TWO types of butter: regular butter and cinnamon butter. Truly a thing of beauty!

In this area, this spot in well-known. Humble City Cafe has been serving down home country cooking for years in Humble Texas. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. My brother lives in this area and his favorite starter are the fried mushrooms. The are hand battered and come to the table pipping hot. He won't order anything else until he gets a bowl of them to devour. Then, he orders his meal. Aside from the food, I love the small town feel at this place. Their menu prices are very reasonable and the service is great as well.
Keep in mind that the parking is a little bit confusing however with their wonderful staff, they can definitely guide you to the best parking spot, which I could really appreciate that to avoid any towing or tickets. During my most recent trip, I decided to order something different. I ordered the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy and my other side was steamed cabbage. My brother wanted to try it out as well and it was by far our favorite dish! I was amazed! He ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese which I want men I was a bit jealous of the macaroni and cheese since it was so tasty!
Regarding the meatloaf, we weren't sure which kind of sauce we wanted so our server was kind enough to provide us with both the brown one and the red sauce which worked out perfectly because we both like the different sauces! I can appreciate when servers provide different options without the additional charge so she was compensated for her troubles. It's safe to say when I am in Humble and my brother is hungry, we will always stop by for their delicious southern meals.

Hands down, the Humble City Cafe is wonderful place to enjoy a historical spot while it is still here and doing well. They just don't make places like this anymore and it's best if we all support it.
