Unless you live on the planet Jupiter and don't know what cheesecake is, you probably love it. I mean, seriously...what's not to love? The look. The variety available. The flavor. The soft, creamy texture. The graham cracker crust. It's too good to deny. And if you live or work in San Antonio, Texas, there's one spot that has the most amazing cheesecakes you will ever experience - Bird Bakery.

If you've never heard of this spot, Elizabeth Chambers founded BIRD bakery in 2012 after months of perfecting family recipes. Elizabeth grew up in the kitchens of her mother and grandmother, who ran a local catering company for many years in San Antonio, so it was only natural to open a bakery in San Antonio. Through BIRD bakery, they have filled a niche in the local community for fresh, from scratch, nostalgic offerings. Bird bakery was established in 2012 and born from a pure passion for baking and appreciation for the finest, whole ingredients. If you pay this spot a single visit, you will absorb the smells and sights of their delicious cupcakes along wonderful sweet treats, including buttermilk pie, lemon bars, monster cookies, and pecan squares.

The moment you walk into this place, you'll get the feel that it's a cute little cottage that's restored as a restaurant. It is so cute. I love it in here. I really can't explain it my words probably don't do any justice it's a really cute place. The cupcakes are fresh and there's such a big selection They are so good they're moist, I didn't have a picture to put on this review. I'll have to get one next time because that's how fast they eat it. Lol but we did get the tuna sandwich on the seeded bread which is so delicious and the California turkey sandwich both of those I highly recommend they're very good sandwiches. They both come with chips for about $13 really worth it.

It's tucked away in Alamo Heights in Shopping Center on Broadway about a block up after you past Austin highway. if you haven't tried it definitely recommend for lunch. We like to go on Saturdays or Sundays. It's really a cute spot everything so fresh and so delicious.

Coming here for the first time last summer, my initial impression was a lasting one. As the little strip, populated by clothing boutiques, an art studio, and things bringing a chic look to the immediate area, Bird Bakery makes solidifies its rightful place on Broadway as a gorgeous boutique of flavor and decor. Powder blue seating on the outside add a refreshing look amidst the not-so-forgiving heat San Antonio offers is both simple and cute. When you walk inside expect a blast of cold air, scents of cupcakes, and embellishments of color surrounding you for your body to take in all at once. Take time to explore the shelves and see what they have to offer, things from coffee cups, shirts, totes and other fun little items before taking a step in line. There are also flyers showing what's going on around town so you too can get involved and be a part of the great San Antonio community!

Now, about the cheesecakes - I highly recommend the honey cheesecake. It is fantastic - flavorful, soft and a sizable portion for any family. During the recent holiday season, we had a seasonal pumpkin mini-cheesecake and it was so rich and delicious that the two of us weren't able to finish it. If neither the honey or pumpkin cheesecake make you happy, they have a fantastic key lime cheesecake...or perhaps their salted caramel coffee cheesecake. I could go on and on. They are homemade, customized to your order time and great service to boot.

We have never had something that we didn't enjoyed, give it a try! Remember the earlier you go the better selection of flavors and sweet treats that you will find! Yes most of the time is packed and there is a line, so what!? Just get in line is worth it. Trust me on this one!

Five things to know about Bird Bakery:

  1. Not too long ago, Bird Bakery expanded to serving lunch. So, if you enjoy a delicious meal during your mid-break in the day, you now have a great, new options to consider! I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and really liked the different herbs they used. I felt it was a generous lunch portion. I also had a hot tea but was missing a little honey. Overall, great lunch experience. During my second visit, I ordered the Pimento Cheese sandwich - out of this world.

  2. Personalized wedding and birthday cakes are their signature talent. If you're in the market for either, this is your place.

  3. They offer homemade/fresh cut potato chips. That's right - homemade/fresh cut potato chips. If you love potato chips...again, this is your spot!

  4. If you get in to a fun mood, order an Elvis Cupcake. Trust me on this one.

  5. Bird Bakery is even complemented by Local Coffee across the street, these two powerhouses give reason to travel further down the Broadway street to provide a different alternative feel further down.
