If you're unfamiliar with San Angelo, Texas, it's a city on the Concho River in Texas. It’s known for its 1860s U.S. army post, the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark. Its restored buildings display original artifacts and weapons. The Concho River Walk is a long, green corridor with walking trails, gardens and parks, such as The Bosque and Kids' Kingdom. Downtown, Concho Avenue is lined with restored 19th- and 20th-century period buildings.

Well, when it comes to amazing BBQ, you don't go to a sit-down establishment. Everyone here knows that you come to best BBQ food truck in the city: The Pit.

This place is amazing! My friends had the brisket, seasoned perfectly, very tender and tasty. During my first and second visit, I had the 6 piece chicken wings in the hot sauce. Very good with a fair amount of heat and those are big chicken wings!

And after the third visit, I can honestly say that there's finally excellent BBQ in San Angelo. BBQ has always been a weak spot in San Angelo, which is strange given its location. Well, the city finally has a place that competes with the Hill country of Texas. The only drawback is that it is only available via a food truck with outside picnic table seating. They have been working on opening an indoor restaurant for a long time but we have seen minimal progress. But honestly, I'll take what I can get.

Before I continue, this will help you - when you step up to the food truck to order your meal, they might offer you a small piece of their brisket wrapped in paper, hot off the pit and I highly recommend you accept it. My first reaction was 'Wow!!!" These folks know what they are doing. They give you a sample to get you coming back for me. And it works. Their BBQ is 'Melt in your mouth' tender with the most amazing peppered bbq rub that I have ever experienced. Additionally, you won't have to ask for sauce, because (1) they don't have it for the samples and (2) you don't need it.

Both the lean and more fatty briskets were fantastic with a very nice smoke ring and great flavor. The pork ribs were very good with great flavor and the jalapeño and cheese sausage was great as well. As I mentioned earlier, they do not have multiple sauce options but we quite liked the single BBQ sauce offered. We had the potato salad and jalapeño creamed corn sides and both were very good. Great sides go with great BBQ.

If you are in the mood for BBQ, I highly recommend stopping by The Pit for takeout or a nice meal at the picnic tables if the weather is nice. If the weather isn't great, order to go and eat at work/home. However, I do recommend arriving earlier as they tend to sell out of popular items, sometimes before 2 or 3 PM. Again, it's that good.

I'm always in this city of San Angelo for business and I will always find myself here, at the Pit, whenever my BBQ addiction strikes. Give it a try!
