I am a sucker for a fantastic breakfast. I enjoy a filling, delicious meal in the morning with a piping, strong cup of coffee. And in Amarillo, Texas, one spot made me very happy when my morning hunger pains strike - Ye Old Pancake Station.

To make things easy, let me create this bio for the restaurant with five key points.

First, the food is always amazing and at a reasonable price. The food is so flavorful and filling. The service is tremendous, Dawn, our favorite waitress is always super attentive, very kind, and knowledgeable.

Secondly, the bustling/busy atmosphere is a testament to their reputation. Be warned, it gets busy and you might have to wait in line if you don't show up early enough. But the wait isn't bad as they seem to be very efficient about getting people in and out.

Third, it's clearly a well-oiled machine with plenty of hard working dedicated staff members. Not only is the food always amazing, but the manager (Mike) checks on us because he can tell that we were not part of the local crowd. The waitstaff can recite the menu backwards and forwards. Not only that, they are willing to substitute one side for another, customized your orders. The folks who wait the tables were smiling and working hard when we arrived...and when we left. That's how awesome it is.

Fourth, after I perused the menu, I'd usually make a single choice - the half Benedict with those famous 'Ye Old' pancakes. As someone who adores hollandaise sauce, I wasn't sure what I'd think of having green chili thrown into the mix, but it was amazing. The ham was about a quarter inch thick but so tender you could still slice through it with your fork. Honestly, this was the best Benedict I've ever had (and I've had MANY). While I'm not really what you'd call a 'pancake connoisseur,' I can say these absolutely hit the spot. Fluffy with plenty of whipped butter and syrup served on the side - and let me say that if these are "silver dollar" size so don't know what I'd go with a full size. Could barely make it through half as it was. Total was about $11 - That's it! It was a great value and their quick but friendly service had me on my way just before 8 AM. Exactly what I needed.

And fifth, if you want something that truly feels like a fantastic home-cooked breakfast, this is the spot. On our fourth visit, it was a family breakfast. We saw that the waiting room was pretty full, but we stuck it out and got a seat within 16 minutes for us (party of 4). My oldest daughter and I ordered blueberry and regular pancakes. They were so big and delicious that we were set on finishing them but absolutely could not. My other daughter order biscuits and gravy that as a father, you know you have to help out the little ones finish their plate. Oh, and I had four servings of the same amazing coffee. I need it in the morning!

Whenever, I'm in Amarillo, I come here for a great meal. I've eaten here many times and you can be assured that the food is great and the coffee is perfect. Lunch or dinner is also wonderful when your hunger pains strike!

Pay them a visit and you won't regret it!
