In Utopia, time seems to stand still, inviting all who come to experience a slice of paradise amidst the Texas landscape. And since we're discussing a 'slice of paradise,' let's discuss the best slice of pie in Utopia as well.
And i this small town, you can find amazing pie at Lost Maples Cafe. The Lost Maples Cafe is a must when headed to or from Lost Maples or Garner State Parks or whenever you choose to visit the small town of Utopia. There's a movie based on the town but I've never seen it. Anyway, back to the Cafe- I was ready for some great home cookin and wasn't disappointed at all! There was a smaller menu for the 4th of July but that was just perfect getting the fried chicken. It was moist and crispy. And the homemade potato salad was incredible! I can't forget about the homemade pies either. I was led to the buttermilk and it was rich and creamy. And speaking of pies...

I stumbled across this gem while heading to Lost Maples to hike a few years back. It was the best surprise of the whole trip. This spot is a quaint cafe with kind workers and delicious food. I visited again with some friends over the past weekend and we all got slices of pie- absolutely delicious! This is one of those feel good places that'll make you feel like a local. It was so wonderful that I brought my mom. And every time I drive through or near Utopia, I make a stop.
Sitting in the cozy booth of Lost Maples Cafe, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingling with the sweet scent of baked goods fills the air. The anticipation builds as a slice of chocolate cream pie, adorned with delicate swirls of whipped cream, is placed before me. With each indulgent bite, velvety chocolate filling melts on the tongue, offering a symphony of rich flavors that dance across the palate. The crisp, buttery crust provides the perfect contrast, adding a satisfying crunch to the luscious ensemble. Time seems to stand still as I savor each heavenly mouthful, transported to a blissful realm where every worry fades away, leaving only the pure joy of sating one's senses with the simple pleasure of a sublime dessert. To me and my mom, the Lost Maples Cafe is paradise from long ago.

My mom is a big fan of pie and to her, a great pie is a masterpiece of simplicity and precision, where every element harmonizes to create a symphony of flavor and texture. At its core lies a perfectly flaky crust, golden-brown and buttery, providing the ideal foundation for the filling within. Whether bursting with seasonal fruits or rich, velvety custard, the filling is the star of the show, its flavors vibrant and balanced, never overpowering but always leaving a lasting impression. A great pie strikes the delicate balance between sweetness and tartness, with each bite offering a delightful contrast of tastes and sensations. Yet, beyond its taste, a great pie evokes nostalgia and comfort, transporting those who indulge to a place of warmth and happiness with every mouthful. In essence, what makes a great pie is not just its ingredients or technique, but the love and care poured into its creation, ensuring that each slice is a moment to savor and cherish. This place made my mom so happy.
Their home made pies are worth cheating. Apple pie was awesome. Chocolate meringue was intriguing - not sure what they added to the chocolate, but it did not taste like your average chocolate. No matter. Still tasted yummy. The cherry pie was my favorite with the apple being a close 2nd. The coconut meringue was also a favorite in our group.
Last year, on Labor Day, we returned for dinner. We ordered the spaghetti lunch special with ambrosia as our dessert. We also couldn't leave without a slice of pie! A lady gave me a spoonful of the buttermilk pie to taste and that's what we ordered.
I know it is cliché, but everything we tried was wonderful. If I had to choose, I would say the steak was my favorite thing we tried, along with the Buttermilk Pie. I suggest you get one to go. We also grabbed a bottle of their homemade Strawberry Jelly.
