If you aren't familiar with churros, you must be new to Texas. Churros is sweet roasted pastry from a custard dough, which has a cross-sectional shape of a multi-pointed star or simply round in cross section. The homeland of churros is Spain, where churros are traditionally served for breakfast. Some churros have alternate flavors and recipes. For example, There are churros with filling and chocolate glaze. Spaniards dip churros in a cup of hot chocolate or serve it with coffee and milk. So there's a lot of options before you. Well, if you happen to be in Amarillo, there's one place you have to try: Cada Vez Cocina Mexicana. Even if it's just for the churros.

The first time I visited this spot, I was at this restaurant for a company dinner...so a very large group.. the food was FANTASTIC! I had the crispy beef Chile rellano it was so yummy that I would go back to this restaurant over and over again! Priscilla was one of our waitress's and she was so awesome and very attentive! Then, later in the dinner, we enjoyed churros for dessert. And, that was it. I was hooked.

The second time I paid this spot a visit, seven of our group walked in and we were seated right away. Once again, the food (especially the churros) was amazing! We started with a shrimp cocktail, which was served in a giant mug. That made it sort of hard to eat, but the taste was great. We ordered the dip trio also, but we never got it. During this meal, I ordered and extra order of churros and we devoured them. My mother said - "This is going to be my go to every time I eat here. The street corn has a small amount of heat which was too much for my daughter but I barely felt any heat." Well said, mom.

Churros are best made at home to ensure their delicious crispness and freshness! Spongy on the inside, with crisp edges, and covered in cinnamon sugar, these are irresistible. Homemade churros (like the ones made here) are the perfect treats to serve at a party, especially if you include different dipping sauces to go with them. In fact, churros are crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. Coated with sugar and cinnamon and dipped in your favorite sauce, they make for a great snack or dessert with the right level of sweetness and chewiness. Well, Cada Vez Cocina Mexicana has mastered this craft to a 't'.

The entire menu gets a 5/5. We only walked about 10 minutes for the entrees, which was nice. As for the service, I would have to say 2.5/5 when it's really busy but I overlook it. We all know the industry is taking a hit and it's impossible to hire anyone right now. I won't let the slow service change my mind about going back.

When you're in Amarillo and you have 'churros on the brain'...this is your place!
