Fantastic Chinese Food in Abilene: Szechuan!

In Abilene, Texas, there is one place that I go for Chinese food. I'm here a lot due to my work. And I always keep coming back and and again to this spot for my love of the food, the decor, the quality and the value - Szechuan.

I've learned over the years when visiting Abilene not to expect much from the restaurants, mainly because I don't eat beef, BBQ, or fried chicken. And frankly, I'm getting tired of pizza and variations on cheese enchiladas, and iceberg lettuce and a mushy tomato with croutons does not count as a salad. So when someone suggested Chinese, I was expecting a semi-greasy buffet or maybe something along the lines of the speedy Panda place. Safe to say, Szechuan's ambience and menu exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Who knew there were restaurants like this in Abilene?

This Szechuan Chinese restaurant in Abilene is one of my all time favorite Asian cuisine restaurants in all of Texas! I travel all over Texas in my business and I come to Abilene at least once a month and I always come to this beautiful restaurant. The staff is always friendly and provide great service. The food is always piping hot and fresh and absolutely delicious. My favorite dish is the House Egg Foo Young, which is the best I've ever eaten in my life.

I'll tell you how my family found this place. We've been searching for an amazing Chinese food place here in Abilene. Until now I was under the impression that there just wasn't an "amazing" place, a few good, but no amazing. Until now. Wow was this place everything I hoped for. Amazing egg rolls, tasty fried wantons. The General Hsu Chicken is fantastic, the sesame chicken was great as well. The Mongolian beef was everything I was hoping for. The service was great, friendly waitstaff and attentive to drinks and needs. That was my first experience here.

The second time I paid this spot a visit, I ordered a vegetable medley, which was a crisp and fresh combination of Chinese and American vegetables and mushrooms, served in white sauce with steamed rice. The rice is the perfect sticky consistency for chopsticks (fried is the only other option, no brown rice, sadly). But if you want chopsticks, you'll need to ask. They are the rounded bamboo variety pre-packaged in paper, so perhaps they don't get a lot of requests.

The nice thing about this restaurant is that they allow you to choose "hot, med, or mild!" On the spices. Plus comes with just the right amount of sauce. The Low menu is excellent as well, my spouse's favorite. He has the mild Kung Pao Chicken and it is packed with chicken chunks, veggies and peanuts. In fact, my entire family likes it mild and even that can be spicy for me. You do have to ask for soy sauce so keep that in mind.

Then, about one month ago, I brought my sales team here while we were in Abilene. Our party had a variety of dishes: Chicken Lo Mein, Mu Shu Pork with vegetables, and kung pao chicken. All were tasty, fresh, thoughtfully prepared, and beautifully plated and served. We ordered hot green tea to drink, but they have the full array of sodas as well. The best is the best for a reason: no equal. Szechuan has held this distinction over ten years! I 'm proud to patronize an establishment with an ambiance to match its cuisine. And I'll keep coming back again and again.
