Located in southern Texas along the Rio Grande, McAllen is a vibrant city renowned for its rich cultural tapestry, bustling economy, and warm hospitality. As the largest city in Hidalgo County, McAllen serves as a hub for commerce, trade, and tourism, offering a diverse array of shopping, dining, and entertainment experiences. Its proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border infuses the city with a unique blend of Texan and Mexican influences, reflected in its cuisine, festivals, and arts scene. With its subtropical climate, expansive parks, and numerous outdoor recreational opportunities, McAllen beckons visitors and residents alike to explore its dynamic urban landscape and embrace its lively spirit of community. And near the corner of North 10th street and West Maple avenue, there’s a fantastic spot that offers impressive, eclectic Mexican cuisine – El Chin Chin.

Well, this spot has it all. McAllen’s latest upscale seafood and taco joint feels like a swanky Mexican beach bar on the Pacific. Order the oyster shooter in a piquant homemade clamato base; they recommend you “make it cooler” with a shot of mezcal. As you sip, soak in the eclectic neon art and murals and peruse the cheffy menu ranging from creatively plated salads to steaks. Be aware, however, that the specialty lies in tacos, tostadas, and ceviche. We loved the triple shrimp ceviche served in chamoy-rimmed glasses topped with a micro-greens slaw (yummy details: one ceviche had a base derived from their homemade clamato, while the other sported a tangy seafood salsa and the third had a pico-de-gallo base). We moved on to a tostada with fresh chopped sushi-grade tuna surfing on a crispy corn tostada topped with a roasted salsa and fresh greens. We look forward to returning soon to enjoy their dog-friendly patio on a nice evening.

The first time I stepped into El Chin Chin, I loved the vibe and decoration; there is no other restaurant like this in the valley. Food is amazing! You have to try at least 3 different things on the menu. They have a great variety of delicious plates; the steak is amazing as well as the tostadas, tacos, and aguachile! And don’t forget about the dessert. The service is really good; every time I go they get better! El Chin Chin offers a dining experience that is perfect. Between the delicious food, impeccable service, and the warm atmosphere, it’s a must-visit for anyone looking to indulge in the best seafood offerings.

The second time I visited El Chin Chin, to my surprise, they already have valet parking. They treated me very kindly. The menu is varied. I ordered some shrimp flautas as a starter. Very good. I also ordered some governor tacos and a fish ceviche tostada. Everything is very rich. The flavor of the cheese in the tacos is very good. The ceviche sauce can be a little bit soggy at the end of eating it. The Jamaican tequila drink was also very good. They didn't have Diet Coke. Only without sugar and I don't like that. I don't remember if they offered me dessert; I'll have to go back and try them. It is a very different place from what is used to in the valley and that makes it unique.

Simply spectacular! PERFECT is the right word for this place. Food is delicious! Abundant, of excellent quality, fresh. Variety of amazing sauces. The chef is a great person and extremely talented, passionate about his job. Great service, delicious drinks! The atmosphere is super original, good music. Do yourself a favor and try it. Something different, original and delicious! El Chin Chin will be a spot whose name whispers through the city with reverence, captivates diners with its bold flavors, artful presentations, and warm hospitality.

Each dish is a masterpiece, meticulously crafted with locally sourced ingredients and inspired culinary techniques that elevate familiar flavors to new heights of gastronomic ecstasy.
