Writer: Lawrence NorentoLawrence Norento

Driftwood, Texas, is a charming rural community nestled in the picturesque Texas Hill Country. Known for its rustic beauty and serene landscapes, this small town exudes a laid-back and welcoming atmosphere. It's most famous for being home to iconic barbecue joints like The Salt Lick BBQ, drawing food enthusiasts from far and wide to savor its mouthwatering smoked meats. Driftwood also boasts a vibrant local arts scene, with numerous galleries and studios showcasing the talents of its creative residents. With its natural beauty, friendly community, and culinary delights, Driftwood is a hidden gem that captures the heart of Texas living. And one spot that is know about every citizen in Driftwood is their best BBQ for hundreds of miles: 'The Salt Lick.'

Salt Lick BBQ is a delightful treasure that's more than worth a visit. This down-to-earth, rustic spot serves some of the most authentic, mouth-watering barbecues I've ever had. The brisket is heavenly--smoky, tender, and perfectly seasoned, while the ribs are succulent and fall-off-the-bone good. Don't forget to try their unique mustard-based sauce; it's an unexpectedly delicious twist. Service was prompt and friendly, making us feel at home--a must-visit for any BBQ enthusiast or anyone who appreciates good food in a charming outdoor setting. I drive through Driftwood several times per year and I will always stop here for a meal when I have the time.

I've now been here five times and I can attest to the fact that the service is great every single time. It's fast and we are always checked on a few times to make sure everything was good, or if we needed anything else. Nearly every time I pay this spot a visit, I ordered the brisket and sausage and my guest will order the brisket and bison rib to include pulled pork. It's almost a guarantee. The food is so good that I can predict most of the orders of my guests. Almost everything comes with a side of beans, cole slaw and the best freaking potato I have ever had. For barbecue sauce you have options of spicy and mild on the table, I highly recommend the spicy one but they are both delicious.

A few good things to know about The Salt Lick:

The good news:

* The barbecue served is juicy and delicious.

* The setting offers a rustic charm with cooling fans.

* There's ample space, a large indoor dining area, and an outdoor patio.

* They offer an impressive selection of beers, wines, & cocktails.

The not-so-great news:

* The prices may be too high for some.

* Extended wait times, particularly on weekends.

* They do not accept reservations.

The ambiance is wonderful, you can even bring your own alcoholic beverages, but no soda. There's lots of seating, free parking, and the vibe is definitely easy-going and friendly. Service was great. Very friendly, attentive and just great! Definitely a must visit!
