Dr Bánh Mì: The Best Bánh Mì in San Antonio!

If you're not too familiar with Vietnamese food, you may not know about Banh Mi. IF you don't, bánh mì (or banh mi) is simply a short baguette with thin, crisp crust and soft, airy texture. It is often split lengthwise and filled with savory ingredients like a submarine sandwich and served as a meal, called bánh mì thịt. Plain bánh mì is also eaten as a staple food. And if you enjoy a great bánh mì, there's a doctor in the house! It's Dr. Bánh Mì.

If you've never heard of Dr. Bánh Mì, it's located on Potranco Road, within the Costco development, near Smoothie King. And I can tell you from massive amounts of experience, I have eaten many, many sandwiches from this place and I always leave delighted. Sometimes, while I'm at work, I will order a delivery through Door Dash and replace a cooked dinner with an order (or two). It's that good.

Long ago, when I first discovered this spot, I tried the garlic beef sandwich. It was so tender, and refreshing that I purposely took a photo of the menu item with my phone to ensure I would not forget the order. It contained carrots, cucumber and the dab of cilantro. The best part about it is that the veggies harmonized with the meat, rather than overpowering it. About two months later, I returned to Dr. Bánh Mì and tried the chicken sandwich. It was fantastic and full of flavor for all the same reasons.

Now, when it comes to their beverages, I have tried four of their green teas so far: Peach, Mango, a mixture of two of them and the Pineapple. OMG. All very tasty and not overly sweet. Keep in mind that if you order from this spot using Door Dash they give you a sweetening level option to customize your preference but I just always stick to the recommended/default flavoring. To be honest, I've started ordering these drinks on rotation now. Although I still need to try all the other drinks on their menu, it's fairly to say that I'm addicted to the teas.

But now, let's discuss the Bánh Mì itself. The first experience with them, I had the veggie Banh mi with tofu and it's definitely one of the best flavors around. The tofu was tasty and not dry or bland. Even better, the veggies were loaded into the banh. And what makes them so good? Well, they make their own bread in house! Fresh, tender bread for the sandwiches. Incredible! The bread that Dr Bahn Mi creates is a perfect combination of crunchy and soft. They know what they are doing!

During my second experience with the bánh mì, I ordered the pork bánh mì and washed it down with their lemonade. It was SO GOOD that I would've eaten those sandwiches until I was physically ill. They were so delicious. For about 15 bucks, I expected a good meal...but it was great.

For my pick up they were friendly. Interior is clean and small. For my delivery items loved the hand written message on my tea cup. Overall, I will continue to return for one reason - the fresh baked bread absorbs the flavors, adding to the experience. And if it becomes soggy, you can avoid it by ordering the rice bowl instead! Problem solved!

Simply put - it's a clean, friendly environment, tasty teas, they offer a military discount and the staff is considerate and attentive. They are quick to get your order out to you with a smile.
