North of Houston, there's a little city named Humble. In fact, the locals call it 'Umble'. The 'H' is silent. If you've never heard of it, that's understandable. Humble, Texas, nestled in Harris County, is a vibrant city with a rich history and a welcoming community spirit. Located just northeast of Houston, Humble boasts a blend of small-town charm and modern amenities. Known for its oil boom roots, Humble's economy has diversified over the years, attracting businesses in various industries. The city offers a range of recreational opportunities, from sprawling parks to golf courses, catering to outdoor enthusiasts. Humble (population 17,000) is known for a few things - a DeLorean factory, the birthplace of Howard Hughes and home of The Humble Oil and Refining Company, a predecessor of Exxon.

But one thing Humble is not known for is outstanding French cuisine. And yet, there's one spot in this tiny area that provides an impressive glimpse into an amazing meal.

Chez nous is a modern French Restaurant where traditional French cuisine meets the needs of the American market. Chez nous is renowned in its new world interpretation of the Parisian classics. The seasonal menus are created by Chef Stacy Simonson and highlight the fine locally produced ingredients served in an elegant yet casual setting. Specialties include Foie Gras, Charcutiere, Rack of Lamb, Duckling, and Souffles, just to name a few. It was established in September of 1984 in a renovated Church in the quaint town of Humble, Texas. Founded on the tradition of sturdy French cuisine and discreet yet attentive service, Chez nous attracted the attention of critics throughout Houston and the US. Nationally recognized with Zagat since 1987 and to our current status of Top 100 Restaurants in the United States according to OpenTable diners reviews.

The Chef is Stacy Simonson. Chef Stacy has been with Chez nous since 1993, starting as a kitchen "commis", eventually moving into the role of Sous Chef to founder Chef Gerard Brach.  In 1998 Stacy and her future husband Scott moved to France to live with Chef Brach's Father and work in the Perigord region of the Dordogne Valley.  Upon returning to the States, Stacy lived in San Diego and worked with The Marine Room in La Jolla, Vignola in Downtown and Private Catering.  In 2001 Stacy  returned to Chez nous and continued her training along side Chef Brach until being handed the reigns in 2006.

The menu is straight forward with well prepared classics. We marveled at the excellent execution of each dish. First must is to order the complementary baguette warmed, as it is only served warm by request. Second order of business is to order the charcuterie board. It will transport you to Europe with the taste. From the cherry jelly topped mousse, to the smoked duck breast, this board was awesome in terms of textures and flavors. The pickled pearl onions, caramelized onions, and cornichons paired well the proteins. We were presented with some toasted bread when I asked for crackers.

During my dinner,  I had Foie Gras, a Caesar Salad, and the Roast Duck. My wife had their Ravioli, Fried Pasta Salad, and the Filet. We had a very nice St. Emelion that our server suggested. Everything was perfect, from the caramelized apple served with the seared Foie Gras to the sear on the Filet. For dessert we had the Grande Marnier Soufflé with a a wonderful Crème Anglais. The Soufflé was perfect and nicely presented. Even the butter tastes like European butter. Our server and all of the support staff were super as well.

The atmosphere here is intimate and cozy. Not too loud. When we dined here, it was full of happy foodies, devouring their meals and enjoying great conversation. Loads of conversation filled the dining room but it wasn't too loud to be annoying.

This is one of the best restaurants in North Houston. It is out of the way for us so we do not go there often but when we do, usually for a special occasion, we have excellent service and fine cuisine. Note: You need to make reservations and parking while not limited on city streets around the restaurant it is so plan accordingly. Also, preorder your soufflé so you don't have to wait.

If you're near Humble and want a fine dining experience with a twist of outstanding French cuisine, this is your place!
