Owners Pat and Ray Guard were employed by Club Corporation of American for almost 20 years. In 1996, they saw a need for an upscale dining environment in the Kingwood area and built The Veranda. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic atmosphere with fabulous food and incredible service, The Veranda should be your choice. All of their chefs are French-trained, but also specialize in Texas products including Texas Prime beef and fresh seafood.
I celebrated with my family during their 54th Anniversary. The dinner and the celebration was here with close friends. When you're walking up the sidewalk and viewing the dining room, it's easy to become so impressed with how beautifully set it is with the sparkling candles on each table, art work and furnishings. After seating, you will notice the wonderful music that plays in the background. The meal itself was as exemplary as the surroundings. My husband and I ordered the steak and seafood. My Steak Diane was excellent; the best steak I have had in 15 years of traveling. My spouse ordered the Tuna steak and it was prepared just as she asked. Everyone was expressing the same accolades about their steak and seafood choices. After the entrees we all had a dessert and they were excellent as was the whole experience. Their coffee was very special and we enjoyed the beautiful place for about two hours and are confident that we will return again. One year later, we kept our promise.
We decided to celebrated our own wedding anniversary one evening. We got a quiet table for two next to a window. The wine list had many varieties to choose from as did the dinner menu. I started with the Texas wedge salad with was fresh and flavorful. For the main course, my hubby had the salmon with avocado poblano sauce which he and I both enjoyed. I had the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin which was good (but not as good as that salmon). Dessert was creme brûlée which is amazing and a caramel drizzled New York cheesecake which wasn't too rich and that's just to my liking. The prices are very reasonable for the quality and amount of food. Neither me nor my husband could finish our entrees. We did want to save room for dessert though.
Always an interesting menu and always prepared with the freshest ingredients and served to perfection. It's BYOB but if you are going out to drink, go to a bar. What could be better - a family-operated business that cares. The next time you're in Kingwood, visit this spot for dinner and find out what a great place The Veranda is and that you have been missing this little gem for years. You'll be delighted.
