In the event you've never heard of this company, Rao's is a European style cafe' that specials in desserts of all sizes. Rao's also has received numerous awards for it's specialty coffee. Our breakfast and lunch varieties offer something special for everyone.
Now, to ensure you aren't confused, Rao has two different locations - one location is at 4440 Dowlen Road and the other is at 2596 Calder Avenue. This review is about the Dowlen spot.
Rao's Bakery itself was founded in 1941 by Johnny Rao. Johnny Rao and family opened the bakery at its present location, the corner of 10th and Calder in Beaumont, Texas. The bakery was known for its Italian cream cakes, cookies, and cream puffs. Through the years Rao's had several different owners, but its doors never closed. Not much changed at Rao's over 58 years and in 1998 Jake Tortorice bought the bakery. Jake's vision was to restore the bakery to the reputable place he enjoyed as a child.

And my favorite goody? Sugar Cookies! They are like 'my thing' and I can't ever seem to get enough. Thank goodness they aren't in Houston, it would be a problem (: But I always make a stop when traveling East to Beaumont and beyond. The buttery cookie and the icing are perfect! I love how they keep up with the seasonal colors and shapes for the holidays. Rao's definitely puts their best foot forward to create the most amazing looking and delicious cookies for you. They're almost too cute to eat. Almost.
But Rao's also has amazing Gelato, Sherbert, and desserts of all kinds. My kids love the cupcakes and I'm a fan of the Pistachio gelato. They have several flavors for the diversity of their customer base - like PB&J, Coconut, Peanut Butter, Cinnamon, and Coffee Mocha, to name a few.
Great coffee shop, too! Overall cute place with inside & outside seating, gift shop, and a little something sweet for everyone! Rao's is a tradition I look forward to every time.

I'll tell you how I became familiar with this company. My good friend (who was the bride-to-be ordered a giant spread of goodies from Rao and everyone who attended couldn't stop talking about the flavors. Everyone left the event very happy, raving about the baked goods. Then, I went myself a few months later and found their staff was wonderful! Every time I go to Rao's they clearly so an outstanding job of keeping us happy and well served.
If you're in Beaumont and desire the ultimate breakfast to go, consider this spot. The baked goodies and coffee will leave you with the biggest smile on your face. They are open early in the morning (6:30 AM) if you have an early drive to work.
Rao's is definitely my go-to venue for goodies and even pizza! Pay them a visit!
