Best Grilled Cheese in Houston: Twisted!

When you're really, really hungry, an amazing grilled cheese will always do the trick. And if you're in Houston and find yourself driving down Washington Ave., 'Twisted' is the place to go. I am a big fan of grilled cheeses and I enjoy them all the time - different spots, different grilled cheese concepts. I can state, with clarity and honesty, this place (Twisted) is the best, hands down.
The moment you walk inside, you'll notice it's very different compared to most eateries. While I absolutely love the food, art on the walls makes this spot even better. Even the light fixtures are eclectic. Yup, I notice things like that. Super cool!
During my first experience by myself, I was cheerful the moment I sat down. I was greeted, the waitress introduced herself and even offered 3 recommendations with a smile. Great service. Due to the business occurring at lunch time, I had a bit of a wait, but that's to be expected when your food is made to order and in high demand. It was hard to narrow down my choice (so many great options), but I went with the spinach & artichoke grilled cheese & waffle fries. To me, that sounded so awesome! My only critique - everything is a la carte. You do not receive sides with your sandwich. But that also gave me the option to specify my sides rather than hearing the common - "it comes with....". Other than that, absolutely everything was delicious. I was asked to leave a comment card before leaving and I wrote - "I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the Houston area. I loved everything about it!!"
Originally (before I had ever visited this spot) I found out about Twisted when my co-worker and friend brought me here during a recent trip to Houston. We sat down, looked around and ordered the basic items from the menu. I thought to myself - 'I know what a great grilled cheese tastes like. We'll see.' Well, from the moment I bit into the sandwiches, the grilled cheese was something to smile about. The sandwiches were really delicious. We tried 2 different grilled cheese sandwiches; the truffle mushroom and the tarragon lobster. The tarragon lobster was very delicious, the truffle mushroom was just okay for me. I'm not a huge truffle fan. I love brie and goat cheese, but they didn't really do it for me together as grilled cheese. However, I do think it's worth trying as everyone's tastebuds are different. To each their own, right?
About a month before writing this blog post, my neighbor and I ordered food to go from Twisted (for delivery)....and wow!!! As you know, I love grilled cheese but I decided to order something different. And, hands down, this was the best brisket sandwich I have ever had. Our orders consisted of the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and the tarragon lobster (again) I can't tell you how thoroughly we enjoyed this meal. Before eating our meals we were weary about the portions but the sandwich size is perfect and definitely keeps you satisfied. I'm looking forward to trying more items from this restaurant!
The hospitality was wonderful and made the experience of eating in a new place very comfortable. The manager is so sweet and positive. Every time I visit this spot it makes my day. I'm definitely going back, again and again, and you need to give it a try!
