You probably know that Houston is a gigantic city. And the city is separated into several sections. The center of the city is nicknamed 'Montrose.' This is a collection of fantastic institutions and eateries. And if you're in the mood for a great coffee and relaxing atmosphere, consider a spot named Campesino on Waugh Drive.
Campesino is a comfortable but spacious coffee shop surrounded by the Montrose area's energy. It offers a more specialized menu with the opportunity for for classic coffees on request. There's quite a range of food options as well, which are offered throughout the day.
Due to my job, I am always in the Montrose area when I drive through Houston and I have visited Campesino multiple times. With the exception of just one visit, they were always full and busy.
When I pay this spot a visit, my favorite specialty coffee on their menu is named 'Horchata Iced Latte' - the blends of vanilla and cinnamon are a delight and play nicely with espresso and make this a perfect hot weather drink. At times, I enjoy a little diversity and order the Cafe Con Leche.
Best of all, it's not just coffee. You can order delectable tidbits to snack on for lunch or bring them home to friends and family. The sweet Empanadas were a big hit with my family but my person favorite is the Guava (sweetest) and Pineapple Empanadas.

Not that long ago, I brought a friend with me and we enjoyed the Choripan for lunch along with a side of the Chimichurri (with hot sauce) and Plantain Chips on the side. Incredible. After she ordered and consumed it all, she ordered another to go. It's that good.
A note about parking in the area; it's a challenge in Montrose. But there's a back parking lot that's free all day, as well as street parking. The parking lot is large, and I've never seen it full so parking is not a concern unlike many shops in the city.
Regarding the staff - friendly and quick to explain the popular menu options.
Not only is the coffee spectacular, but it's a unique atmosphere! Campesino itself is a renovated home that's decorated with lots of art and color everywhere. The energy feels fun but calm with a diversity of people. There are areas that feel more socially inviting and other nooks that offer a nice feel of privacy. If you live in Houston (or near there) I recommend staying for lunch and then ordering their unique specialty coffees and empanadas to go for a meal later at home. =
During a short business meeting, I brought a few clients to this spot and we sat on the sofas to warm up and enjoy our coffees and pastries after eating outside on the patio at Piggy's before talking business. It was delightful and the clients loved it. Such a change of pace. It definitely was a nice change from your average Starbucks or coffee shop with the Latin coffee beans and music.
If you're a part of a bigger group, there is a ton of indoor and outdoor seating. Just turn a corner and there's more seating found!

If you live in Houston (or paying the city a visit), head over to Waugh Drive and say hi! You won't be sorry!
