If you live on this planet, you've heard of Houston, but about 35 minutes south of Houston's downtown in a city named 'Sugar Land.' Long ago, it's name derived from sugar plantations. Today, it's a vibrant city known for its diverse community, thriving economy, and top-rated schools. Its name pays homage to its past as a major sugarcane producer, with remnants of this legacy still visible in landmarks like the historic Imperial Sugar factory. The city offers an array of recreational activities, from exploring its picturesque parks to indulging in its diverse culinary scene.

Guru Burgers will tell you that they are a family gastropub, specializing in artisan and creative burgers and crepes. Created by the owners of Japaneiro's & Jupiter, Guru features a menu focused on local and organic ingredients and made-from-scratch, artisan fare. They also offer a great variety of local, microbrewery beer on draft and growlers all at affordable prices.

The first time I stopped by, I had the lunch special here and it was shockingly fast and very tasty. I had the 'peanut butter and plantain burger with yucca fries on the side'. The price was fair and the flavors were outstanding. They use great quality beef, the bread was decadent and the Yucca fries were a totally new experience that I'd like to have more often. Anyway, that was first experience.

About 6 months later, I was in Sugar Land again and I stopped here on our way from Houston to Victoria. We called ahead to see if they were too busy for us and they said, 'we are good!' When it comes the burgers - they nailed it! I ordered 'medium rare on the side of rare' and it was perfect. I also ordered the Bruce Lee and added avocado. It was so good and super filling....could not finish it all. My husband had 'the Fig Newton' and we ended up swapping burgers half-way through because I loved it so much! Yes, he his amazing on several levels, but especially because he shares his food with me.

On my most recent visit, I decided on the 'Pancho burger' and I was very impressed. I ordered it medium rare (trying something different) and it was prepared perfectly! There was just the right amount of heat, and I really liked the guacamole. I was also very surprised that for a mere two dollars more I could get a salad AND fries. The salad was excellent! Very fresh with a nice crunch facto, and an excellent house dressing.

Additionally, the service was excellent! I had interactions with three different employees, and all of them were friendly and helpful. They checked on me a number of times and were very prompt with the closing of the tab which, by the way, was completed right at the table, instead of the usual trip to the back room! I liked that a lot.

So if you find yourself in the heart of Sugar Land and you need a great hamburger to fill the void of your appetite, you know where to go - Guru Burgers!
