Apple pie is an American staple across the country, especially during the holiday or patriotic season(s). The iconic treat can be served hot or cold, with whipped cream or à la mode, with a lattice crust or streusel style. While it's hard to find an apple pie that's bad, the real question is where are the best apple pies in the Texas served?

Well, if you're in Austin, Texas, the best spot for an amazing apple pie is Upper Crust Bakery. At Upper Crust, you can have your pie and eat it too. This bakery, located on Burnet Road, serves a hard-to-beat apple pie I've tasted yet. In my humble opinion, this pie will give even the most impressive desserts a run for their money.

First - From the beginning of this posting, you can tell that I believe their homemade apple pie is delicious. My brother and his kids each got a cookie (oatmeal, chocolate, peanut butter for one and oatmeal raisin the other) both of which received rave reviews. My only critique is that it would be nice to have the pie heated up, but forgot to ask if it was an option so I can't ding them for that. That's my fault.

Secondly, Upper Crust completely stuffs it's pie with Apple. Each Apple inside the slice was lightly coated with pie filling, which made the pie feel more wholesome and a fulfilling desert. You can tell there was a lot of work and consideration that went into the apple pie.

Third, I attended a recent fourth of July celebration at work and I picked up a beautiful apple pie from Upper Crust...and it was a favorite amongst the entire group! I needed to bring four pies to satisfy the demand. And I'll tell you why it's so good - their Dutch apple pie is amazing offers a unqie blend of roasted pecans with the crumble just create the perfect mix of flavors. The apples, oh the apples, Upper Crust knows how to bake the pie so perfectly that the apples still have the right amount of crunch. It's a brilliant blend of everything together.

Five things to know about Upper Crust:

  1. The prices for the quality of desserts and sandwiches are also really reasonable. I also love the Honfleur bread. You will love it.

  2. Go before 9:30 am to get the best quiche in town! Once it's gone, it's gone for the day. The Guatemalan coffee is to die for - again, the best in town. Italian Cream cake - to die for! Love this place and have only had breakfast there.

  3. If you're coming on a Sunday morning, I recommend coming early. I got to UC at 10 and a great majority of the breads ( mostly croissants) were already gone.

  4. For lunch, consider getting a half a sandwich, a cup of coup, chips & salsa, AND a chocolate chip cookie for $7. And if you're lucky enough to stop by on a day with cheese soup, you'll get to taste one of the best foods in the city.

  5. Before writing this blog posting, I decided to order lunch here last week and it was amazing. I also ordered another Apple and Pumpkin pie which were divine (yet again). Each was seriously seriously homemade (better than what I can bake for sure) and cost $17 a piece. Now considering Randall's was selling pumpkin pie for $14.99 and the quality is 1000x's better check this place out.
