If you're not too familiar with Beaumont, Texas, there's a great Cajun/New Orleans spot slightly north of the Oaks Historic District in central Beaumont. It's named 'The Crazy Cajun.' This spot is not to be confused with the Krazy Kajun about two miles away.
In the event you have never heard of this spot, the original location of the Crazy Cajun existed in Pineville,Louisiana and it became a local favorite. After the numerous comments from guests asking the owners to expand to larger cities, they decided to open a second location in Beaumont, TX inside the old Starvin Marvin's Bar & Grill.
The Crazy Cajun offers a wide variety of fresh seafood that you can chose from. When in season, they receive daily shipments of fresh live crawfish, fresh catfish, alligator, crabs and shrimp but the local love their incredible gumbo (options of chicken & sausage or seafood). In fact, their gumbo is so adored by the customers, they provide an option to take a portion of frozen gumbo aside for you to take home and enjoy. Yes, it's that good.

During my first and second visit of the Crazy Cajun, we wanted to experience something truly 'cajun', so we ordered the Crawfish etouffee. Amazing! Just like New Orleans! We also ordered a number of options to go and they were all was excellent!
When it comes to the atmosphere of this spot, we were pleasantly surprised how big and spacious the place was. We were from town visiting our parents in Beaumont and really didn't know what to expect at first. The restaurant has a neat atmosphere and the outside seating with the band is perfect for a Sunday afternoon. Actually, this is the best outdoor seating that Southeast Texas has to offer. But after seeing the ambiance and sampling the menu, we loved it! During our third trip to this spot, we had the pleasure of chatting with our waiter named Hayden. What a great guy - friendly and attentive; everything we could expect in a waiter. What a gem of a guy.

During our 4th visit to the Crazy Cajun, we went wild to sample everything we could imagine - the crawfish, boiled shrimp, and crabs were great! And once again, the wait staff was friendly (and fast) as well.
During our 5th visit (yes, I really mean that...five visits), We ordered something different - Crawfish Mac and cheese. Phenomenal! Then, we ordered some Shrimp po-boys and burgers to go. Excellent for a late night meal at home. Once again, the service was great, the restaurant was super clean and we sat on the patio this time.

One final note: If you love boudin and bread pudding this is also your place. I can't say enough good stuff about how great the food is here. I have yet to find any dish sub par they have all been excellent.
They're happy to cater big groups, such as large family meals, groups/parties and even 'boil house' options and large volume drink orders. They provide it all!
Five things to know about this spot:
They are open 11 AM - 9 PM. More than enough time for lunch or dinner.
On Friday and Saturday nights, they provide live music to add additional flair to the experience.
Boudin Balls and fried green tomatoes are the most ordered items, aside from the gumbo and crawfish.
This place is very busy during football season. If you enjoy watching the game and a great meal at the same time, you've found your spot!
Get an order of the bread pudding to go and request extra sauce/syrup on the side. Trust me. :)
Give them a try when you're in Beaumont!
