If you've never heard of Bastrop, it's a city and the county seat of Bastrop County, Texas, United States. Although it's a tiny spot on the map, the population was 9,688 (according to the 2020 census). It is located about 30 mi southeast of Austin and is part of the Greater Austin metropolitan area. Let me put it this way - if you live or work in Austin, you have definitely heard of Bastrop.

We went to visit my sister and her new hubby. The live about 10 minutes outside of Bastrop and we wanted to celebrate their new life together with something special. Since I am not familiar with this area at all, I 'Yelped' - looking for a good dinner spot that would be worthy of a special occasion. All I have to say is this - this spot (Store House Market and Eatery) has 99% 5 stars. I checked twice to be sure.

"Wow...how in the world does this spot almost all 5 stars?!" I reviewed all of the information and reviewed the menu. Impressive. I can tell you, just from one experience, they also deserved a 5-star rating from me...and they got it.

This is a unique, farm-to-table restaurant located in downtown Bastrop. The moment we walked into the door, we were greeted with a big smile and 'welcome.' The entire staff was very friendly and they had three small seating areas: the patio, the bar area, and the dining area. We made a reservation for a Thursday evening and were seated right away in the main dining room. It would have been nice to enjoy the patio vibe, but it was too hot outside to enjoy a good meal.

Between courses, I had to take an important phone call and I got up and walked to the front door to chat on the phone for about 5 minutes. I noticed that the hostess and the manager were talking about the reservations for the upcoming weekend. They were talking about the number of big groups, parties and special dinners reserved. This place is slammed with business. And talk about the diversity! On the left of our table, it was a dinner of bridesmaids celebrating their big day with a newly wedded friend and to the right of us...I kid you not...a group of Harley bikers being passing through town.

To start off the dinner, we ordered some cocktails, a 'Texas cheese plate', salt & vinegar fries, and some oysters that were the special of the day. The oysters had some kind of blueberry vinaigrette which made them a different color...and they were delicious. Freshly shucked, no doubt about it. The fries we quite possibly our favorite french fries we've ever had in our life. We also ordered the burger and the quail knots. Everything arrived hot and fresh. The side salad with the burger had a yummy vinaigrette that was also made in house. We wanted to try everything on the menu, so we ordered about 3 times the food we could handle just to sample it all and take the rest home.

Before I conclude this posting, I want to give a shout out to our waitress, and honestly, the entire staff at this spot. But she (and everyone else) was so friendly, knowledgeable and exuded an awesome vibe. In my opinion, for date nights...this is the best spot in Bastrop. I actually don't really know where a couple would go otherwise. So, thank you, Store House Market, for bringing super great food move and a vibe to bastrop!

Best place to eat in Bastrop hands down. Quality food made with passion. I'm not in this area often, but when I return, I'm coming back for brunch or dinner. In a city as big as Austin, you're given many places to consider, but when you venture slightly out of the city, I found one place that ensures I will keep coming back.
