Amazing Fajitas Food Truck in Conroe, TX: Taqueria La Norteña

Depending on how fast you drive, the city of Conroe, Texas is about 60 minutes north of downtown Houston. And Tex-Mex throughout Houston is a daily competition. Hundreds (yes, hundreds) of spots throughout the greater Houston area pride themselves on their Tex-Mex, especially their fajitas.

And just in case you live on Mars and don't know what a fajita is, it's a dish of Mexican origin consisting of strips of spiced beef or chicken, chopped vegetables, and grated cheese, wrapped in a soft tortilla and often served with sour cream. Very popular, especially in Texas.

Well, if you happen to live in northern Houston and you love amazing fajitas, one food truck is worth your consideration...big time. It's name is Taqueria La Norteña and it's a small food truck that's located near a big H-E-B grocery store at the corner of highway 1488 (across from a CVS Pharmacy).

I found out about this spot from a friend who highly recommended place...and I can say, with confidence, it definitely did not disappoint! The food (especially the fajitas) was delicious and very flavorful. During my first visit to Taqueria La Norteña, I ordered La Norteña - which came with two different meats, cheese, avocado, 6-8 tortillas, and , limes, and grilled onions. It was amazing. I ate it all while seated near the food truck, ordered another one to-go and another one for my significant other at home. It was THAT good. And although it was my first experience, I noticed that the service was fast and it only took around 10min to get my order. If you want to eat outside, they have a covered patio which is nice when the heat isn't so severe. So, that's a plus as well.

So then, about 2 months later, I told a co-worker about this food truck and he said - "Oh, have you tasted their fajitas? Incredible!" I had to admit that I didn't know Taqueria La Norteña offered fajitas. I had no idea. So, on my next trip to Conroe, I paid Taqueria La Norteña a visit and ordered their fajitas. OMG - twice as good as I had hoped!

Although I'm definitely not an expert in Fajitas, this spot knows how to make a serious meal - According to the gal behind the counter, they use a classic Mexican recipe, juicy beef and chicken are seasoned, seared and cooked to perfection, then tossed with sauteed bell peppers and onions. They then use a squeeze of fresh lime which adds a punch of flavor and the meat is served with warm tortillas and assorted toppings. They are amazing. Recommendation - if you come here hungry and order the fajitas, you will eventually order TWO servings. That's how delicious they are.

And speaking of their Tex-Mex menu, the fajitas aren't the only thing I'd recommend, their Gorditas are amazing. A Gordita in Mexican cuisine is a dish made with masa and stuffed with cheese, meat, or other fillings. It is similar to the Colombian and Venezuelan arepa. Gordita means "chubby" in Spanish. There are two main variations of this dish, one of which is typically fried in a deep wok-shaped comal, consumed mostly in central and southern Mexico, and another one baked on a regular comal. The most common and representative variation of this dish is the "gordita de chicharrón", filled with chicharron which is widely consumed throughout Mexico. Gorditas are often eaten as a lunch dish and accompanied by several types of sauce. And the Gorditas at Taqueria La Norteña are fantastic - sizable portion(s), well-cooked beef and ripe, fresh avocado. Sensational!

I speak from experience. This place is always fresh and delicious. Nestled in Conroe for those who work and live in the area. I have been eating their tacos, fajitas, nachos and burritos for a while now. It's delicious, easy and affordable to simply call in an order and pick it for your family near lunch or dinner time.
