Eagle Pass, Texas, nestled on the border of the United States and Mexico, epitomizes a lively blend of cultures and a rich historical backdrop. Located in Maverick County, this city thrives as a bustling center of commerce, agriculture, and tourism. Its strategic positioning fosters a unique fusion of Texan and Mexican influences, evident in its culinary offerings, festive celebrations, and daily rhythms. The scenic Rio Grande River flows nearby, providing stunning vistas and recreational possibilities. With its welcoming atmosphere and diverse population, Eagle Pass invites visitors to immerse themselves in its allure, from historic landmarks to modern conveniences, making it an enticing destination for travelers and a beloved community for its residents. And you can ask anyone in Eagle Pass where to eat and you'll be told to head on over to the Wagon Wheel for BBQ and an amazing chicken fried steak.

During my first visit here, we placed our order at the counter before selecting our seating, and immediately felt the family-friendly ambiance of the establishment. The decor, adorned with wild game wall mounts, added to the cozy atmosphere. It's worth noting that the portion sizes are quite generous here! The BBQ brisket is exceptionally tender and packed with flavor, while the ribs practically fall off the bone. The green beans are infused with the savory goodness of bacon, butter, and a hint of onion, while the charro beans boast a robust taste with sausage and chicharrón bits. The potato salad offers a delightful touch of dill, adding to its appeal. As for the creamed corn, it strikes the perfect balance of sweetness, blending cream cheese and corn seamlessly. The first thing I thought to myself was - ''Hats off to this remarkable family-owned establishment."

On my second visit to this exceptional establishment, I decided to bring along a group of friends. As soon as we stepped inside, we were enveloped by a fantastic atmosphere and greeted warmly. A delightful woman took charge of ensuring our visit was nothing short of perfect. The food was simply outstanding! It's been a while since I've tasted barbecue this good, especially at such a reasonable price. I opted for the two-meat plate accompanied by macaroni and beans, and every bite was bursting with flavor and utterly delightful. We couldn't resist trying the brisket nachos, and they were so delicious that we polished off every last morsel.

The Wagon Wheel is renowned for its colossal and mouthwatering chicken fried steak. As you step through the doors, the aroma of sizzling batter and tender meat fills the air, immediately whetting your appetite. The menu boasts this legendary dish, promising a culinary experience like no other. Each serving is a masterpiece, featuring a generously-sized cut of beef, perfectly breaded and fried to golden perfection. With each bite, you're greeted with a symphony of flavors - the crunch of the crust giving way to succulent, juicy meat. Paired with creamy mashed potatoes and smothered in rich gravy, this chicken fried steak is not only gigantic but a true delight for the taste buds, leaving patrons longing for more with every visit.

During my third visit, it was family night. And while in the vicinity with a group of family and friends, we decided to return to Eagle Pass for a big dinner and once again, sought recommendations for a good place to dine, and multiple individuals pointed us to Wagon Wheel (again), specifically highlighting their brisket and macaroni burger/sandwich. We all said 'Of course, why not?' True to the praise, the meal was exceptionally delicious and served in generous portions, offering excellent value for money. Surprisingly, our orders arrived promptly, within a mere 10 minutes of placing them. To our delight, the manager personally attended to our table, ensuring our dining experience was enjoyable. Her warm and pleasant demeanor added to the overall positive impression of the establishment.

The food was great. The portions are amazing. The customer service is A+. We will definitely come back again. During my last visit, I even ordered the Philly brisket cheese steak sandwich to go. And sitting at home, devouring it late at night, it did not disappoint.

Try this spot when you're in Eagle Pass. You'll love it.
