Amazing Bakery in Austin: Peace Bakery

This is my first post on DelectableTexas.com! I'm excited! Thanks for having me! I live in Austin, but spend a great deal of time traveling, due to my job. And I love baked goods - cookies, muffins, fresh-basked bread, etc. And in Austin I have searched far and wide for the best bakery in the entire city. In my opinion, it's Peace Bakery/Deli.
Peace bakery/Deli is an international bakery that loves a true diversity of flavor. Bottom-line, they take their craft seriously. As you can tell by now, I positively love this place!
First of all, their food is unique, and always fresh. You'll never have to worry about the food not being top-notch. That's a given. Never give that a thought or a concern.
Secondly, they are located on 11220 N Lamar Blvd, directly across the street from a CVS pharmacy. Some might consider it an odd location but once you know where they are you don't forget it. Peace Bakery/Deli is a family owned business and every member of their family works there. As much as possible, everything is made from scratch.
Third, I have never had a bad experience here - their food is always exceptional quality and so fresh. One of my favorite aspect of their menu is 'the sides' - While the main salad is awesome, the shredded cabbage slaw is even better. The beets are soaked in sugar and vinegar - beyond incredible. The cucumber and tomato salad - healthy, fresh, crisp and full of flavor. And the rice? - so incredibly good that I could eat a ton of that stuff and go back the next day. And it goes without saying - the hummus is the best I have ever tasted. I could go on and on.
Fourth, they always have a spit going with chicken and gyro meat. But I really love their lamb options and chicken too. They do a special everyday - on Thursday's it's pan fried fish with spicy rice, I think Friday is a whole roasted lamb. They always have lamb shanks too. Always have some flavorful chicken, and great vegetarian options too.
Fifth let's not forget about the desserts! The mother makes them all - and they are all so damn good! I got a sample - coconut baklava is - wow - awesome! The pistachio baklava - awesome. The Walnut Baklava - awesome. The cashew baklava - so good! I bought a sample of 5 different ones and brought them into work for my co-workers - they went nuts I tell ya. They were like "where did you get such tasty pastries??"
I will tell you how I originally discovered this spot. One day, driving home, I was craving a falafel and Google suggested I stop here. I had never heard of Peace Bakery/Deli. So, I took a chance. I walked in and fell in love with the smell. Then, I notice the incredible kindness of the staff. So, I order a falafel plate with some sides. Not only was it a grea deal (financially) but it more than obvious that the food was fresh and colorful- great tasting too! I then noticed that they had a full menu of vegan options. When I finished my meal, I said to myself - "I WILL be coming back here." That's how it started.
Every single time I pay this spot a visit, the owner always gives something to our daughter (if she seems interested in a certain item, he will engage with her and serve it to her). Two days ago, I walked in again and they offered an extra special experience. Something I won't forget any time soon. A woman who appeared to be homeless walked in and asked if he had old food that they were going to throw away, without hesitation he said to her "no but I have fresh food you can have" he made her plate without expecting payment. It wasn't what he wanted to give her he took his time and explained what each item was that she asked about. That was hard to fathom in today's world. For THAT reason alone, I definitely fell in love with this spot even more.
Five helpful things to know about Peace Bakery/Deli:
They offer great catering services for private parties. If there's a big gig that you need filled with delicious options for your group, Peace Bakery is excellent for it.
They are working on gift cards for their customers. Soon enough, you'll be able to share their delicious goodness with your friends a family using helpful business gift cards!

You can dine at the deli and even register your reservation for seats on their website. Just click on the 'Reservations' tab.
Talk to the owner/manager and ask all the questions you'd like. You'll never find someone more passionate about their products. They will give you all the advice possible. Incredible folks.
