If you're not to familiar with poke, it totally understandable. It's a niche interest. The word poke simply means "chunk" in Hawaiian. That said, in the past poke was typically any meat or seafood that is cut into small chunks and marinated. When referring to poke nowadays, it is generally seafood. It's unclear exactly what the origin is, though many agree that chunks of marinated seafood have been consumed for a long time by locals. If you ask anyone from Hawaii, such as myself, I've known poke all my life and just grew up eating it.
And in San Antonio, Hula (without question) is the place to go! I visited for the first time a year ago and I was highly impressed with not only their food but how nice the staff was to everyone. Besides the fact that you can build your own bowl, salad or wrap, they also have some suggestions which you can already choose from.

During my first visit, I decided to go with the Hawaiian classic bowl and a create your own bowl and then another bowl to go for my sister. The Hawaiian Classic had ahi tuna, cucumber, red onions, lettuce, masago, pineapple, avocado and house classic salad. The other bowl was almost the same ingredients but with spicy tuna and ahi tuna. Both of the bowls were absolutely delicious and the fish tasted so fresh. I could not have been happier with my choices.
During a second visit, I ordered a sushi burrito and their honey jasmine green tea. Since I have a gluten and egg allergy it's always an issue for me when I order food but I have always been safe here; plus they have sauces I can add that are so yummy (ex: sweet chili) (however no gf soy sauce) anyways, their food is absolutely delicious!
During my third visit, I decided to go with a sushi bowl after my recent (second visit) sushi burrito order. I wanted to try something new on their menu. It was excellent but I do feel like the sushi bowls feel heavier in my stomach.
I think out of all the sushi/poke bowl places around here as well as the Medical Center area, they have the best selection of toppings. They have masago, tamago, pickled daikon, and a lot of other tasty things. Also, don't select the crab stick as one of your proteins and wait until the end to order crab salad as a topping. Then it's like an additional protein without being charged for one! All of the sauces are the bomb diggity, the sriracha aioli combined with unagi sauce is the best!
I can't wait to go back again and eat another delicious bowl of poke. It is the best kinda meal you can have with this Texas summer!
